1 John 4:10; Romans 5:8, 10; Ephesians 2:4-5; Titus 3:3-7
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
God is love. He loves His people perfectly even though we don’t deserve it. In Luke 15, Jesus tells a parable that helps explain this. He tells the story of a shepherd who has one hundred sheep. But because the shepherd loves all of the sheep, if one wanders off on his own, the shepherd will leave the other ninety-nine and will go after the one. Just like the single sheep did not deserve the shepherd’s love and care, we don’t deserve the love that God shows to us.
Redemption: Review
Thankfully, God does not just leave us in the broken world, but is repairing the brokenness through His Son. From the very beginning of time, God promised He would fix creation, and He kept His promise by sending Jesus to rescue us from our sin. Jesus came to live on the earth and willingly died on the cross so that sin’s power over creation would be broken forever.
