Big Truth:

Jesus Is Our Substitute

Isaiah 53:4-6; Romans 5:6-11; 8:1-4; Galatians 3:13-14; Ephesians 5:1-2; 1 Peter 2:22-24; 3:18; 1 John 2:1-2; 4:9-10

Bible Verse:

“For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”

2 Corinthians 5:21

Big Ideas:

  • All have sinned and are in need of a substitute.
  • God sent His Son, Jesus to be our substitute.
  • Jesus died in our place.
  • Jesus satisfied our sin debt.

Bible Story:

John 19:1-42

God sent His Son to the earth to pay our sin debt. We all owe a sin debt because every person is born with a sin nature and every person sins. Jesus came to the earth and lived a sinless life until He was crucified on the cross. When Jesus was crucified, He took on the sins of the whole world and paid for them by dying. Though He was innocent and not guilty of any sin, He willingly took the place of every person on the cross so we would not have to pay for our sins. Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb after His death.

Story:

On Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, we take time to uniquely pause, reflect on, and celebrate Jesus. He lived the sinless life that we could not, He died the death that we deserved to die, and He rose again to conquer death and the grave so that we can have new life in Him.

Set some time aside with your family this week to talk about Jesus and His resurrection.
