John 1:11-13; Romans 8:14-17; Galatians 4:4-7; Ephesians 1:3-6; 1 John 3:1-3
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
David showed mercy and grace to Saul’s grandson, Mephibosheth when David restored all of Saul’s land to Mephibosheth. David did not have to show Mephibosheth grace and mercy, but he chose to do so because of his love for Mephibosheth’s father, Jonathan. David treated Mephibosheth as his own family. He brought him into his family and gave him rights and privileges. God brings us into His family when we repent and believe in Jesus.
Redemption
Thankfully, God does not just leave us in the broken world, but is repairing the brokenness through His Son. From the very beginning of time, God promised He would fix creation, and He kept His promise by sending Jesus to rescue us from our sin. Jesus came to live on the earth and willingly died on the cross so that sin’s power over creation would be broken forever.
